First day cover from Indonesia

Taking care of the environment is a preoccupation that is more and more present in the mind of people and in the actions of governments. Naturally, this is a subject that can be found illustrated on stamps, as on this first day cover from Indonesia.

This souvenir sheet was issued on the 5th of June 2008 to celebrate the 2008 World Environment Day (WED). The WED is celebrated every June 5th worldwide. The theme of the 2008 WED is : CO2 Kick the Habit, Towards a Low Carbon Economy. This slogan can be seen on the left margin of the souvenir sheet. The idea of the campaign is to change the minds of people, to change their habit in order to reduce drastically the production of CO2, which participates to the greenhouse effect. Both stamps of the souvenir sheet illustrate actions to reduce the production of such harmful gas.
The first one, on the top, pictures President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and First Lady Ani Yudhoyono riding a bicycle during a campaign held to increase the awareness of Indonesian people on the need to use bicycles instead of cars.
The second stamp illustrates the need to plant more trees, as trees help fighting against production of CO2.
I rather like the nice pictorial first day cancel ! A very nice FDC !
