Let the force be with you

I’m a big fan of sci-fi, and of course I’m a big fan of star wars, so I was very happy when I got this letter from the USA and I don’t resist to the pleasure to share it with you. Thank you Charles !

As you can see the cover bears two large stamp picturing Obi wan Kenobi and a X-wing star fighter from Star Wars, a series of movie that I do not need to present ;-) These stamps belong to the following souvenir sheet issued on the 25th of March 2007.

The three other stamps are definitive stamps belonging to various series. The one on the complete right is the star definitive stamp issue in the 7th of June 2006.
The one located at the left of the star stamp belongs to a series started in 1986 about great American. The full set contains 28 stamps. This one, picturing Father Edward Joseph Flanagan, has been issued on the 14th of July 1986. Father Flanagan (1886-1948) was a priest of the Roman Catholic Church in the United States. He was the founder of what is one of the most famous orphanages. Currently known as Girls and Boys Town, the orphanage was originally called Boys Town and is located in Nebraska. The campus is not just an orphanage, but now a center for troubled youth. A move calles Boys Town was produced in 1938 about the life of Father Flanagan. Spencer Tracy won an Oscar for his role as Father Flanagan.

The last stamp of the cover is also a definitive one, issued on the 19th of November 1999 and picturing an American Kestrel (Falco sparverius), a sort of small falcon widely found in Americas.

It is hard to read on the scan, but the stamps are obliterated by a slogan, that is a quote :
“Let us dare to read, think, speak and write” – John Addams 1755”
John Adams (1735-1826) was one of the leaders of the independence movement. He served as Vice President of George Washington and became the second president of the USA.
The slogan also mentions a website
poweroftheletter.com which hosts a competition organized by USPS around the premiere of a movie about Adams.

A very interesting cover as you can see !
