Weekend in Tours

I don’t have much time to write today, because a very busy working day is waiting for me. This weekend I’m going to Tours. Tours is a city located on the bank of the river Loire. The area around Tours is called “La Touraine” and is well known for its wine. Tours is also located in the area of the famous “Chateaux de la Loire” (Loire castles).I looked for French stamps picturing this city. I found actually three. The first one is from 1962, it commemorates the 100th anniversary of the death of Pierre Fidèle BRETONEAU, a French doctor who was born in the region of Tours. The background of the stamp pictures a view of city of Tours.

The second one is from 1967 and pictures the Hotel Goüin, a private hotel which is now a museum. Very nice building and gardens.

The third one is from 1985 and pictures Tours Cathedrale.

Have a great weekend. See you next week.

Hi Eric,

Great to see you're showing France again! The French stamps are among the best in the world I think and they're a fantastic showcase for the country. It would be "magnifique" to build up a collection of all the French regions, with stamps showing the area and towns, the people from that area and also using slogan cancellations etc. Great stuff!
